Lakewood Historical Society Plans 10th Birthday Celebration

October 16th, 2008 at the McGavick Center

The Lakewood Historical Society would like to invite the community to share in the celebration of our 10th Anniversary of the Society founded in Oct, 1998 by Cy Happy and Steve Dunkelberger. The new Sharon M. McGavick Center, on the campus of the Clover Park Technical College, has been chosen as the venue for the celebration on October 16th, 6-8 PM. Not only will the prerequisite cake and punch be served, the Society will be sharing their successes achieved over the last ten years.

The greatest accomplishment thus far has been the opening of the storefront museum in October, 2006 in the historic Lakewood Colonial Center.  This hallmark anniversary also gives the Society an opportunity to share their excitement in the momentous decision they have made in selecting the Mueller-Harkins Hangar on the campus of the College as their permanent museum site. The 13,000 sq ft of space will accommodate numerous displays and exhibits that showcase the Lakewood area history. Negotiations are underway with the College to complete the first step in the partnership.

Other celebration activities include special recognition of charter members, book signing of “Images of America: Lakewood” by Walter Neary and Steve Dunkelberger, and a slide show showcasing historical sites and member activities.  This will also be a perfect opportunity to join the Society and to participate in the Annual Museum Fund.  If you’d like to know more about the event or the Society and Museum, please call Becky Huber @ 253-582-8682 or visit our website: www.lakewoodhistorical.org
